LOCAL ELECTIONS – 4TH MAY 2023

Results of the uncontested elections within the Eardisley group of parishes can be found under ‘Notices’ below and on village noticeboards.

There are currently no councillor vacancies as all positions were filled.

 

WORKING GROUP VOLUNTEERS

if you are not sure about going all the way and becoming a Councillor, but would like to get involved, why not apply to join one of our four working groups – Planning, Highways, Community Services & Environment? You would work and undertake projects alongside councillors and other group members to provide recommendations to the Parish Council for consideration. In this way, you can contribute to shaping the decision-making in your local community. If interested, please approach one of your local councillors or contact the Clerk.

CO-OPTION

When a vacancy occurs, if a valid request for an election is not received by the deadline specified by the Electoral Services office in their official notice, Eardisley Group Parish Council will seek to co-opt a person to fill the vacancy as soon as practicable in accordance with the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) Rules 1986.

Could You Be a Councillor?

If you meet the following criteria and are prepared to make a commitment to holding public office, the answer is probably YES!

You need to be:

  • British or a citizen of the Commonwealth or European Union
  • At least 18 years old
  • Registered to vote in the area or have lived, worked or owned property there for at least 12 months before an election

You can’t be a councillor if you:

  • Work for the council you want to be a councillor for, or for another local authority in a political restricted post
  • Are the subject of a bankruptcy restrictions order or interim order
  • Have been sentenced to prison for three months or more (including suspended sentences) during the 5 years before election day
  • Have been convicted of a corrupt or illegal practice by an election court
